About
MY BACKGROUND
Are you looking for a candidate with a wealth of varied experience in STEM, education, and the humanities? I'm Alex, and as a recent graduate of the GIS Certificate Program with Virginia Commonwealth University, my coursework has included classes like Introduction to GIS, Socio-Economic Analysis using GIS, Database Management, and Quantitative Analysis.

Currently, I am interning in the Hopewell City Development and Planning Office. My work there includes everything from maintaining and upgrading filing systems and completing environmental review work for grants, to creating maps and running spatial analysis to assist other key offices and organizations throughout the city.

My undergraduate work included a minor with the College of Charleston Geology Department, where I served as a lab assistant, helping to prep introductory classrooms and facilitate student learning. I have also earned a master’s degree in Germanic Studies from the University of Maryland, where I fine-tuned my problem-solving, teaching, and critical thinking skills. For the past several years, I have served as a teacher of German in Hanover County, where I managed two classrooms and around seventy students at five different language levels.

These experiences inform my work, as a spatial analyst, as an educator, as a colleague, and as a student, the latter of which is a role that I take seriously. I don't rest on my laurels, and I see every day as an opportunity for learning and self-improvement. Don't believe me? Ask me what I'm working on at home. I hope I get the chance to bring this and other strengths to your organization.
